My Favorite Things

February 10, 2007

Some of you may know that my best friend Mike who lives with my DH and I has been battling testicular cancer and I have been taking care of him for the past year. After his original surgery and last round of chemo the doctors started talking about more surgery. It didn't seem too severe at first and he really didn't want more suregery but now we have more information.

Mike saw his scans for the first time yesterday and the doctors talked with him and his mom. Basically the area from his kidneys to his heart is filled with tumors. Surgery will involve repacing a section of his aorta and loosing one kidney. The list of possible complications is terrifying. Without the surgery he probably wouldn't live longer than 2 years. With it he has much better chances.

He has until Monday to decide whether or not to have the surgery. He said he probably will go ahead with it but is really scared and upset because he just got a promotion at work that he has waited for for 2 years and loves his new position. Last night was very emotional for all of us. In addition to what he will be going through there is a big impact on my husband and I. We would all appreciate your good thoughts and prayers for the next couple of weeks. Thank you so much.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I hope he has the surgery so he can enjoy life awhile longer. :o) I know my dad had surgery he needed and it gave us another 5 years instead of the few months they said he had without it.
