WIPocalypse Update

At the end of May I pulled out Frederick the Literate and made a vow to finish this one by Labor Day.  It's a Wysocki design of a cat laying on a bookshelf.  There are two shelves.  I had finished the bottom one including all the back stitching.

At this point I am a little over half finished with the top shelf.  I'm starting to feel a little burnt out.  I stitched a little Halloween ornament to give myself a break but that turned into a bigger project than I expected and I hated every stitch.

I'll have to take some pictures on my day off.

Big May WIPocolypse Update

I am really not sure I like this new blogger layout.  I guess if I blogged more I would see the advantages.

Anyway today I wanted to start writing about the things I stitched over the past month for the WIPocolypse update.  I always seem to end up posting late and not being able to think of much to say.  The first project is this Victoria Plum design by Lanarte.  I saw this on ebay and thought that looks like it goes with another one I knew I had bought.  To my  happy surprise I already had this one with the bunny too.  I was on a "bunny" and "Easter" kick so I started it right away.  It wasn't too bad to stitch and everything went fairly smoothly.  I have no idea how I want to finish it.  I have a matching one with the same girl and a squirrel so I will probably stitch that one first before deciding what to do with them.

Next I bit the bullet and finished Warm Winter Woolens.  I was so happy when I bought this.  One of my favorite designers LHN and it had a cute animal.  I decided to use delicate teal fabric instead of brown/tan/natural which is not my favorite.  It turned out well although if I had a bigger supply of Crescent Colors or a nearby LNS I might have switched out the green.  This was not a fun stitch.  I had massive problems with knotting floss despite using Thread Heaven and short lengths of floss.  I don't think it was a problem with the Crescent Colors brand of floss because this has happened on various projects with all different brands of floss.  I wonder if there isn't some other issue like humidity that is the cause.  I got frustrated and made mistakes and was just generally happy to put the last stitch in this one.  I still love it now that it's done though.

I but another bullet and picked up Christmas Kisses.  This is a cover kit from a UK magazine by one of my favorite designers Margaret Sherry.  It's stitched on 18 count aida so that it can fit into a card.  The aida and floss are not good quality and are difficult to work with.  The small size is part of the problem.  It turned out cute but it was not fun to stitch.

Finally I started Once In a Blue Moon by Just Nan.  I'm using Victoria Clayton hand dyed silk and a light blue evenweave I found in my stash.  I love stitching with silk.  After all the knotted and tangled floss of recent projects this silk slips through the fabric like a dream.  It's also nice to work some specialty stitches instead of just cross stitch.  I've finished all but the beads and treasures.

I did not stitch this wedding sampler that I am told was by Imaginating.  My mom bought a box of stitching stuff at a church rummage sale and this was included.  It had the bride's name but no groom.  I picked her name out and added mine and my husband's.

I'm now working on a small Bucilla kit that I started last summer called Nature Patchwork.  I have also dragged Teresa Wentzler's Castle Sampler out from the UFO pile.  It's one of my big UFO's I want to work on this year along with Frederick the Literate.

WIPocalypse - April Update

I'm a little late with my update this month. The 6th of April landed on a day I worked a double and came home sick. Then over the weekend we had Easter and I forgot all about blogging.

I did some Easter stitching over the past month.  The first was something I rescued from the thrift store.  The original was stitched in country reds on natural fabric with the words Somebunny Loves You.  I changed it to pastels and Happy Easter.

Next I stitched this little bunny and basket.

This Mill Hill bunny is actually a pin but I stitched him to go on my Easter tree.

This iris turned out to be a little large for my tree. It was a quick stitch but part of the design was missing from the chart and I had to stitch it from the photo on the package.

I was browsing on ebay one night when I saw this Victoria Plum design. It reminded me that I had bought this earlier so I dug it out of my stash and started it.

I've also done a little bit on Warm Winter Woolens.

WIPocalypse - March Update

I have not done much stitching since my February update.  I had a nasty sinus infection that kept me out of work for a couple of days and I lost all desire to stitch.  I'm late with this update because I have no desire to blog either.  I'm well now but I just don't have my energy back.  I spent time reading, watching a few movies and working on a puzzle.  I found a great vintage round puzzle at the thrift store and was happy to finish it and find all the pieces were intact.

I worked on a gift that I can't show for the majority of the time I stitched.  I did the finishing on Catnip and I put in a little work on Warm Winter Woolens. I finally took pictures and after work tonight I will add them.
My thoughts about what I want to stitch are changing since I made my initial list.  I'm in the mood to work on something for Easter now.  Last year I started an Easter ornament tree.  When I pulled it out yesterday I realized I only have two ornaments on it so I should finish at least one more this year.

WIPocalypse - February Update

I have finished everything except adding the heart bead to If Cats Could Talk. I'm waiting to add the bead after I find a frame for it. There's no use ironing and adding the bead now because it will just get wrinkled in my cabinet.

stitched on Queen Anne's Lace Jobelin with Gentle Arts Sampler Threads

I finished a section on The Gorse Fairy and have started the next one.

I was looking for a new medium sized project to work on when I get tired with The Gorse Fairy and I found Warm Winter Woolens by Little House Needleworks. I was looking forward to this one but put it aside to finish my Christmas stitching last fall. I've only done a few stitches so far. I decided to use Delicate Teal Jobelin fabric.

This is a little project I found on ebay. It's a calico cat done on aida with flower thread called Catnip. It comes with a little wooden frame to make a plant holder. The cat looks like our newest rescue Kali so I had to stitch it. I changed the word catnip to her name. I am not liking the flower thread and aida but it will be cute when it's done.

WIPocalypse - First Update

Since I started late my update is not on the full moon this month.  I worked on two projects since joining the WIPocalypse, The Gorse Fairy by Lanarte and If Cats Could Talk by Designs by Lisa.
I spent the majority of my time on The Gorse Fairy. It's a huge chart that I have broken down into working copy pages. I have almost completed the 5th page.
I hope to have If Cats Could Talk finished by the next update on February 7th. It is an easy and quick stitch. I'm using the suggested GAST floss and Queen Anne's Lace fabric. It's dark and rainy today so the photo didn't turn out so great.

WIPocalypse

I found this WIPocalypse Stitch-A-Long last night and it looks like a lot of fun. Luckily signups don't end until the 15th so I made it just in time.

You are supposed to make a list of everything you want to stitch in 2012 and post updates on each full moon. The list can be edited throughout the year.  I know I will have more but for now here's my list.  I will be happy if I can finish one of the first four and at least do a section on the other three.
